A nickname or personal brand on your profiles is fine as long as your name as licensed and your broker’s name are on them. A team or business name is different: a page, site or sign that advertises real estate under “Smith Home Group” or “Living In Austin” reads to the public as its own brokerage, so TREC requires that name to be registered under the sponsoring broker before it is used anywhere the public can see it. Until it is, it comes down.
A nickname or middle name you go by is an alternate name — request it under Settings → Registered names and keep using your broker’s name next to it. A team or business name (“… Group”, “… Team”, “Living In …”) is an assumed name, a DBA, and it belongs to a brokerage: RaiderX, or your own LLC or PMC.
A team name is registered under the RaiderX license, and that is what the Team plan is: switch to it under Account → Change sponsorship type. RaiderX files “RaiderX LLC dba <your team name>” with the Texas Secretary of State and registers it with TREC under the RaiderX license. You can then advertise under it, recruit agents under it and set each agent’s split. A name that ends in “Team” or “Group” is registered as a team name.
File the assumed name for your company with the Texas Secretary of State. Then open Organization Settings → Names, request the name, and upload the Assumed Name Certificate when it is asked for on your LLC compliance checklist. The broker registers it with TREC under your company’s broker license. Your company can then advertise under its licensed name and the registered DBA.
Only the broker can register a name with TREC, so every request goes through the broker. You are notified in the app when the name is Registered or needs changes. Until it shows as Registered, keep it off anything the public can see.
A registered team or business name does not change the rules: every page, post and sign still shows your name as licensed, the broker name (a registered DBA of the broker counts), and the “TREC Information About Brokerage Services” and “TREC Consumer Protection Notice” links where they belong.
A team or business page that is not registered is logged on your quarterly audit with 30 days to fix: take the page down, remove the real estate content from it, or get the name registered.
A team page from your old brokerage that is still public shows a former affiliation to the public. Either bring it under your current broker by registering the name here, or take it down.
A business entity you are registered with TREC to be paid through lets you advertise under its name, but it is not a brokerage, so your broker is still named in every ad.
